About Anna M. Lipka:

Anna LipkaAnna is originally from the Caribbean. A lush tropical environment filled with a natural palette of bold vivid colors supplied by a plethora of exotic plants, such as hibiscus, bougainvillea and wild orchids. This palette is further enhanced by the colorful plumage of a variety of tropical birds that call the islands home.

This chromatic variety is emulated by the people of the islands in their culture, reaching peak brilliance in the costumes and dress up of the Carnival season. Against such scenery it is little wonder that art would become part of Anna's life and, that her art would be uniquely captured by Anna's art!
Thus her early works consisted of sketches, chalks and some watercolors with impressionist to neoimpressionist styles that recall Monet and Cezanne.

Over time as her art has evolved, so too has her artistic influences ,which include the Fauvist influence of Henri Matisse ( her favourite) whose bold use of bright color in natural depictions and still lifes, echoed her Caribbean influences and which continue to influence her art today.

After immigrating to the US in the late 1980's. Anna had been enrolled in college(then called Baltimore City Community College) where she coincidentally met the first son of Baltimore famous screen painter, Tom Lipka, and was introduced to Tom's own impressionistic styles and use of bright colors composed on a different type of "canvas", that being the metal wire mesh used in window screens. Anna was naturally attracted to this unique - to Baltimore art where she readily adapted Tom's techniques to her own artistic repertoire. Anna is now Tom's protégé and lead apprentice thus ensuring that this unique style of art which began in the early 20th century, will continue well into the 21st century.

And with Anna's own artistic heritage influencing her work and the Lipka name, Anna will be able to take this local art form in exciting new directions.

Art News: Release The Fear
This is a common thought that if you give troubled youth an outlet like this they will straiten up more or at least find a constructive hobby. In my experience this is not the case.

Having an artistic outlet is good yes but the problem runs much deeper and most of the time can't be done away with so easily. I have several friends who turned to art to vent their frustrations and are now productive members of society. As tatoo artists and such. Were others are just messed up and now know how to play guitar and draw.
